The Conjunction
A word that joins two words, phrases, and sentences.
The conjunctions are used in common are following.
- and (और)
- then(तब /फिर )
- but(लेकिन )
- when(जब )
- because(क्यूंकि )
- therefore(इसलिए )
- that's why(इसीलिए )
- so(तो / इसलिए )
- thus(इस प्रकार )
- though(यद्यपि )
- althoughयद्यपि /हालांकि )
There are two types of conjunctions that are discussed in studies as follows-
- Coordinating Conjunctions
Learning the words on a coordinating conjunction list isn’t difficult and it’s incredibly fun, believe it or not! That’s because there are only seven words in this category, which create the useful acronym FANBOYS.
Wondering what FANBOYS stands for? Well, the acronym FANBOYS stands for the words for, and, nor, but, or, yet, and so. Easy enough, right?
Write down this first conjunction words list, along with the acronym FANBOYS and it should stick in your mind easily enough.
F – for
A – and
N – nor
B – but
O – or
Y – yet
S – so
For – This word has a similar meaning to “because” in a sentence.
e.g.
1. She was tired when she arrived in class for she had studied all night.
2. Ram went market very fast for he had to prepare lunch for his parents before they reach at home.
3. They went college before time for they had to prepare to play their roles.
But – This one connects opposing ideas.
e.g.
1. I tried out for the basketball team, but I didn’t make it
2. Raveena is working hard in maths but her basic concepts are not clear till now.
3.She was to reach soon for her interview but she already got late from home.
.
Yet – This word is like the word “but.” However, it emphasizes the contrast even more.
e.g.
1. It’s snowing outside, yet it’s the middle of summer!
2. The weather was cold, yet bright and sunny.
3. Her advice seems strange, yet I believe she's right.
Nor – This word joins two nouns that the subject of the sentence does NOT have or obtain.
e.g.
1. Monica does not know about Michael and Bobby, nor about Jessica and Susan
2. She didn't eat lunch when she was ill, nor dinner.
3. Ramesh don't like to read, nor to write.
So/Yet – These words suggest time and continuation depending on the context.
e.g.
1- So far, he hasn’t told her the truth.
2- They love football, yet they gave up their tickets to someone less fortunate.
3- He was standing in the shadow, so that I could not see his face clearly
2. Subordinating conjunctions
After- It's a subordinating conjunction and it joins two causes principal clause and subordinating clause.
e.g.
1- I'll go to college after cooking food.
2- I'll help you in completing your homework after completing mine.
3- She will give tuition classes after taking her dance class.
As- जैसा
e.g.
1- We shall work as the team will instruct.
2- please answer the question as teacher has taught you .
3- Buy a shirt as you want.
As long as- जब तक कि
e.g.
1- Ravi and Shyam will run as long as the army will guide them.
2- She will score good as long as I will teach her.
3- You will not study as long as your mother didn't scold you.
As soon as - जैसे ही
e.g.
1-I'll come as soon as possible.
2- class started making noise as soon as teacher left class.
3- I'll call you as soon as I'll reach there.
As though- मानो
e.g.
1-The people climb the mountain Everest as though it will be possible.
2- They felt as though they had been given the wrong information.
3- She was teaching as though she has years of experience .
Before- पहले
e.g.
1- I'll go to my class before having breakfast.
2- Students have to reach in class before teacher enters into the classroom.
3-I have to reach station before 9:30.
Even if- भले ही
e.g.
1- I'll not take lunch even if you force me.
2- You should not tell lie even if you get paid for it.
3- Always respect your teachers even if they scold you.
If-यदि
e.g.
1-I'll come for a class if you say.
2- I'll not tell truth if you say.
3- They will join classes if classes will according to their time.
When- जब(also can be unreal future condition)
e.g.
1- I Shall give a huge contribution to the people when I will become a billionaire.
2- The Mughal emperor Akbar attacked to
Maharana Pratap when he was eating
bread made of grass in the forest.
as much as- जितना
e.g.
1- Thieves were beaten by the police as much as they tried to conceal the secrecy of stealing.
2- I'll will try my best as much as possible.
3- she will help you financially as much as she can.
Just as- जिस प्रकार
e.g.
1- I'll do this work just as you wanted.
2- Sorry I can't make fool of people just as you do.
3- Why does sheetal not score well just as her siblings.
Now- अब
e.g.
1- You must be sure now you'll not be absent.
2- Because I won the bet now according to bet, I will not let you go to picnic.
3-You have done your homework now you can play.
Now that Once-अब एक बार
e.g.
1- COVID-19 started infecting now that once had happened before.
2- I tried with all my efforts, but didn't get right answer, now that once please you try to solve this question.
3- I have written a story now at once you check it and tell ,if there is any mistake.
Provided that- होने पर, बशर्ते
e.g.
1- All students will go away provided that the principal will be absent.
2- Rama is welcome to the class, provided that she'll behave herself.
3- Teacher will not scold you, provided that you apologize for what you've done.
Since-जब से
e.g.
1- Your English has improved well since you've joined the English class.
2- Patients are feeling well, since they are practicing yoga everyday with having their medicines
3- She is scoring well, since she started to attend classes every day..
Supposing- माना कि
e.g.
1- I've taken an entire plate of food supposing that everyone has already taken it.
2- Reena gifted a dress to her mother supposing that she will love it.
3- Hema is hiding from her class teacher supposing that she will ask for fee.
That- कि
e.g.
1- He said that you'll come.
2- Ravi told me that he will not join class today.
3- Meenakshi said that she doesn't like meena.
Though- यद्यपि
e.g.
1- Ravi got 32 marks in the exam though the principal considered him passed.
2- She likes dancing, though sometimes her feet hurt with ghunghru.
3- Rashi went to buy clothes for her sister, though she doesn't like shopping.
Until- जबतक
e.g.
1- I'll continue my studies until exams are going on.
2- I am waiting outside until you complete your work.
3- We played until it got dark.
Whenever जब कभी भी
e.g.
1- I say wait and watch whenever my parents ask me about my career.
2-She always helped me whenever I need .
3 I will join you whenever you will travel to Badrinath dham.
Whereas- जबकि
e.g.
1- Ravi did hard work whereas he didn't get that much marks.
2- We shall wait for the 8th of June decision whereas the matter of class is a concern.
3-She helped me whereas she was sick that day.
Wherever- जहांकही
e.g.
1- It was only silence wherever we went in the market.
2- We saw only crowd wherever we went.
3- Teacher will find out him wherever he is hidden.
Which- जो(select)
e.g.
1-I like that bag which you gave me.
2- I bought the pen which you suggested me.
3- That is the dress which she wore on her birthday.
Who- जो(person)
e.g.
1- I walked with a man who came there yesterday.
2- She was my neighbour who gave you chocolate.
3- Ram is a boy who really likes to play cricket.
